(in talkng about the web page) Joanne Spohn's comments which are peppered throughout are a lovely touch; so very "Joanne":  perfectly mannered and

she sees the positive in everything.

The web site is excellent! Bravo!  Would love to have tea with Joanne Spohn and Janice Carter, among my favorite people.

Joanne and I have been exchanging a lot of emails this last week.  I am a staunch Yankees fan, but I think she is a dyed-in-the-wool Red Sox fan.  How did

that happen to her growing up in Vestal?

Joanne sent me a jpg. of her and Brian and it came up just fine.  Again, I don't know.  By the way, she looks exactly how she looked in high school.

I remember Joanne Spahn and that she married Brian.

I probably owe her some money that I borrowed to paint Easter eggs for Russian class.  Hmmm!

I told Joanne that had I been sitting in back of her in Mr. Gennett's math class, I would have been Just as honest as Brian in grading her paper… unless of

course she fluttered her eyelashes at me… then every answer would have been right!!!

I know Brian & Joanne ... they moved to Raleigh not too many years ago. We worked on the last reunion together.

Brian's family had a couple of small cottages out at Lake Arrowhead in Brackney, and we have lots of great memories from out that way.

We always spent the 4th of July at the lake, usually with Frank & Janice Miller and their children....and it seems that there was at least one catastrophe

each 4th.

One year, Frank's son hooked him in the lower lip with a BAITED hook!! Fortunately, the barb didn't enter the skin, so Brian was able to pull the hook( and

worm) out of Frank's mouth.

A few minutes after that, the dock fell into the water with all of us on it, then an hour later,Brian & I were "picked-up" for fishing without licenses . The

warden confiscated our poles, fined us for illegal fishing & not having pfd's.

You know what my dear husband told him? "Well, I've been fishing this lake for 36 years & never had a license!" Brian's birthday is in Jan., and every year,

someone buys him a license!!! Ahhh....those are good memories!

I read it (Dick McCoy's 6/7/00 description Vestal today) & actually missed Vestal for 5 minutes. Actually, when he mentioned the Clams, I missed it a whole

lot more. Never went to those places, but I remember the clams from Don Davis'  over in Endicott.

Weren't Beanie & cecil cartoon characters? If they were, I score a dirty old 100%.  Ok, how many of the things on that list do you own?(referring to a list of

"artifacts" common in 1965… things that now define you as ancient!)

Brian has hundreds of 45's, and I have my old skate key, and a couple of blue flashbulbs, and an old ice cube tray, and old milk bottles,

and there's a web site where you can  get a lot of the old foods...like candy cigatettes...www.hometownfavorites.com..check it out

Those were the good old days, weren't they? I even bought Holly one of the old milkboxes that they used to but the milk bottles in when they delivered

it...and I have a milkman's bottle carrier!!

Are you impressed? I have a couple of old cameras, too...I just love that stuff!!! Thanks for the memories!!!

Got another email from Brian's brother today...another friend of ours had angioplasty done last week.

....one artery was 50% blocked, the other was 95% blocked.( And he's 3 years younger ythan we are!)

Are we really old enough for these things to be happening?Gee, I feel like I'm just beginning to grow up!

Joanne was grounded from graduation because she snuck out of the house to attend a party bash at Sharon Garvey's (parents out of town). She was

sneaking down the street at night barefoot (easier to sneak out with no shoes!)

Brain and Joanne now live in Raleigh, NC, moved there from Vestal in '94. They were both born in Vestal and moving away was really a shock for them!!

They have 2 kids who graduated from Vestal. They have 2 grandkids

The last reunion was wonderful she says... you forgot which cliques you were supposed to be in and just talked with everyone

Donna Owen, Rosalie Kocian, Bette Congdon, Sue Card and Joanne skipped school one day and went to Elmira... they thought they wouldn't get caught,

but Joanne's Dad found out and called Mr. Buran who gave them 2 weeks detention.

Joanne used to sit behind Brian in Mr. Gennett's math class. Brian always smelled of English Leather and she hated it. He would always grade her papers

honestly (Mr. Gennett had people exchange papers for grading) while Kenny Spencer corrected the errors!

Georgene Lingle was Brian's girlfriend before Joanne. The broke up... Joanne modified her ways and fell in love with him 8 months later. It's a neat story...

she didn't like his English Leather or his prudish ways... but over time grew to love the man

JoAnne Spohn wrote (in my yearbook) in part "You're a terrific chem. coacher.  Now follow my good examples and you won't go wrong." Hmmm- I wonder

if she was referring to the first year I took chem. Or the second time?

Regarding Brian Sorber:   One day school was cancelled because of an ice storm, so of course three or four of us went out

driving around on the back roads. The sun had come out, and I think we even had the top down on Brian's Volkswagon,

but every twig and leaf and blade of grass was coated with ice. It was as if everything were made of crystal. A memorable morning.    more later – I get too

wrapped up in memories and sit around staring at the wall.…

Brian is the one person in our class that I was really close to. He was the funniest, hippest, most cynical kid in school, which is why most people didn't

know him. Without being a jerk himself, Brian was too cool for school. He knew it was bullshit.

We were in a couple of bands together, or incarnations of the same band.  -- played at Harpur a lot and in the bars along the Pennsylvania line (when the

drinking age was lower in NY). We always enjoyed each other's company,

but we began to drift apart when I didn't really have the commitment to the band that he did. He's a real musician. I plan to contact them. I visited the

website and got their addresses.

I can't tell with Brian because of his mountain man beard, but they look happy and that's all that counts.

. Brian has some good Calif. stories to tell....esp. the time he went to Mexico in a rented car.....& the police pulled him over.......it was in Tiajuana(?), and all

he could think of was that song by the Kingston Trio..."Tiajuana Jail"

thought he'd never see me again. Sue Russo was with him, and she thought he'd never see me again, either! He was driving a rented

car, and didn't know that he needed to take out extra insurance to drive in Mexico.

They escorted him to an ATM machine, &told him that the fine would be $970.00 He used his corporate card, which doesn't get you cash....and they kept

telling him to try the others Finally, they told him to take all his cash,

( all he had was $46.00)slide it between 2 pieces of paper, and hand it to them..discreetly...which he did gladly. They then told him to follow them....but he

was stopped within sight of the border, so. he floored the gas pedal & made it back
