Carren passed away on March 4, 2007

It is with great sadness that I write to you today. Carren Lucille Corpron born July 20, 1947 has lost her battle with brain cancer this morning March 4, 2007 at 3am. She will be missed by her family and all the wonderful people she has met through out her life.

My mother was a wonderful person and she had accomplished alot in her life. She loved to travel and became a travel nurse so she could see all the different places around the world. She also loved to do arts and crafts and many of you she met through her scrapbooking or crafting classes. She had a real talent for arts and crafts and she would always wonder why I never caught the arts and craft "bug". I told her it must have skipped a generation, but luckily my daughter has that special gene and will continue to follow in her grandmothers footsteps of craft making.

In late 2003 my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent extensive chemotherapy and in August of 2004 had surgery to remove most of her right lung. She was deemed cancer free at that time. Unfortunately, the chemo she had weakened her body and allowed the cancer to spread to her brain. The last MRI she had done was only from the neck down and therefore the doctors missed the cancer that had spread to her brain. Around the same time in 2003 she met a wonderful man name Vern. He gave her the world and changed her life forever. It was a blessing to have him come into her life. They ended up moving from South Florida to Live Oak, FL and started to enjoy their retirement years. In the beginning of 2006 my mother was diagnosed with 5 cancer tumors in her brain and underwent extensive treatment called the gamma knife. This was a laser that shot radiation directly to each of the tumors. Vern and my mom got married April 24, 2006. After the treatments stopped they had to wait to see if this treatment worked. Many times she had an MRI done and was told she was cancer free. Then on January 2007 she started having severe headaches again and was told it was just fluid on the brain and given medicine to clear it up. By Jan 26th 2007 she was in bed and experiencing severe headaches on a regular basis. There she remained bedridden until her death this morning. She wasn't in any pain and went peacefully.

Thanks for the update, Rich.  Carren was one of my childhood friends since we both lived in the Twin Orchards area of Old Vestal Road.  I also had a mad crush on her older brother.  It is sad that she had to suffer so much.

Update: Dec 10: 2004

Carren is continuing to enjoy nursing in Redmond CA, near San Francisco. She is a lung cancer survivor and will be with us

at our 40th Reunion in July 2005

Rich McLean had a great telephone conversation with Carren tonight. She just returned recently from Crescent City, CA where she worked for 4 months

sponsored by a traveling nurse program.

While in Crescent City, a tiny town with no Wal-Mart!,  she was totally bored in her off hours. So what do her idle hands do? Well taking a hint from Dick

McCoy, she began to toy with www.match.com. She had 0! expectations. Just wanted something to do.

Got some hits but only responded to one. And guess what, that one was the keeper! She's met a wonderful guy from Gulf Shores Al and she's 16 again. (ie,

in love and all shook up!)

Her short term agenda now is to move to Gulf Shores this May with the traveling nurse program, maybe retire there, and maybe, just maybe, make Dave an

honest man this fall!!! She said this, combined with the clean lung x-rays,

have given her a new life. Funny isn't it, life's twists and turns? Carren would never have found Dave had she not been bored in Crescent City, and had

she not remet Dick McCoy through Vestal65!!!

I cannot tell you how much I hate that yerabook picture....I had just gotten some dental work done the day before and my mouth was SOOOOO SORE

AND VERY SWOLLEN. The funny part was I got them on in my junior year and off two years after I got married.

Then in 1977 I had a car accident broke my jaw distroyed my teeth and had my mouth wired shut for almost a year...( there was about 2 months when I was

blind due to swelling around my optic nerve) Got through it all and when the wires came out of my

jaw my teeth had all floated back to their original crooked position!!!!  I guess you really shouldn't fool with mother nature HA! HA! HA!

I hope as time goes by more class mates will surface. I am trying to contact as many as I can I wrote again to Diane Piston Miller but no further word. Does

Donna Wing Mason live near you? She was always sweet and friendly and very talented in the

music area choir and music theory etc. She and I were friends because of choir VESTAL VOICES and music theory classes.

Rich talked with Carren by phone: She was friends with Debbie LeZenka and Judy McMullen. She remembers the time when they were in college and they

ran down to Penn State to cut up, go wild at a 4-Tops Concert. Sue Gregory may have been with them.

I have FAILED no yearbook ...it must be in the sealed containers in the storage area??? I will get it when I move into my condo and open all the

containers. So until then I am on my own as far as memories!!!!

  Commentator:  Corpron         ,  Corpron         ,  Carren  6/18/2000

Seriously I cannot wait to dig it (the yearbook) out now that I have a reason to pull up the past. It is so much fun...I guess that is because my high school

years were a wonderful time.

If they were anguish and problems I might not be so excited to have reconnected with my 65'ers. That might be why some have not come in search of

those memories.

I copied the data base to take with me so I could read it and show my daughter who has lived with the funny VCHS stories...You know the ones that make

us as parents sound wild and crazy or very hip... Sometimes it almost works HA!HA!HA!

we are getting OLD! OOCH I hate to say that  because I don't feel any different from year to year. Then I read about this one or that one who has passed

and I hear this one or that one is in health trouble. I realize how blessed I am.

( at 53 to have good health and personal peace...even without the jock of my dreams )

I do remeber looking forward to summer when I was growing up in Vestal...and when I went back it was summer yet cold and gray... I don't ever remember

having color in any of my cheeks as a Vestal virgin

What fun to have found this site Classmates.com. I am Carren Corpron class of '65. I have GREAT MEMORIES of my high school years as a GOLDEN

BEAR.

I also was very active with the school choir Vestal Voices.

I presently live in Florida just north of Miami and just south of Ft Lauderdale. I work as nurse 3 days a

week and travel alot. I just came back from sailing around the world

with the University of Pittsburgh.

I am divorced with 2 children Jon 31 and Lisa 30 both married and I have 3 grandchildren. I spend alot of time doing outdoor activities like camping and

sailing.

Unfortunately I have never attended a class reunion as each time I was not able to attend because of my work related responsibilities. I often think back

and wonder how someone from those special days are.

Judy Mcmullin, Heidi Kaufman,Janet Vollumiere, Judy Knapic, Audrey Austin, Jerry Gance Bob Sweet

Roger Lamb,Sue Gregory and on and on.?

I met someone on the Internet who lived in Appalachin and asked him to send me a snap shot of Vestal High School .

He did and I didn't even recognize it. I remembered it" MUCH LARGER AND GRANDER SOME HOW"

I would enjoy a journey back to those wonderful Poncho's Pit, eating speidi"s  A&W, Taylors Tiny Town miniture

golf, out running Frank Buran days.

When I had to come up with an e-mail name I chose VESTAL23 for all the reasons you might guess. Vestal because it is who I am and where I am from and

might trigger someone who saw it to get in touch if they were from Vestal.

And #23 because it makes me smile to remember my highschool sweetheart.( it was his infamous Football and basketball and

track jersey # )

Don remembers making a bet with Carren in 7th or 8th grade…he's not sure of the particulars but it involved how many times she could write Bob

Campbell's name.

Talked with Carren tonight. She was in the process of moving to be closer to her daughter. Updated her address information above.

Carren will finally be getting her yearbook out of storage this weekend. I expect to hear a lot from her once her all ready phenominal memory is stimulated

by the yearbook.

Carren remembered the white building and the " white building dances." That was a community center that would throw sock hops every Saturday

evening. She was reminded of the white building by the picture of the Angelo Ball Field. But so many of her

Saturday evenings as well as the Saturday evenings of our class were spent at the white building. This was Vestal's equivalent to the Endicott record

hops. We remembered that one big difference between after school in 65 and after school

for kids today was parents. There were few latch key kids compared to today. For better or worse, mom (or Auntie in my case) was home when we got

home…to make us do our chores and bug us on what we did that day.

Talked over an hour with Donna Wing last night. It was like we were all buddies tho I didn't know her in HS... just like you and me... I consider you a good

friend even tho we may never have met in HS

... but we share sooooo much being Class of 65 together. Her page will be going up this weekend.

Hey, you must have looked great with those braces back then!!!  Brave girl!! No wonder I see no teeth in your HS picture!!! (Donna Wing told me Carron

wore braces in HS.
