Candy remembers Nov 22, 1963. When that moment was crystallized in her mind, she was sitting in study hall, maybe the cafeteria, talking with Bob

Campbell. She learned not only that Pres. Kennedy had been shot, but that Bob was a regular all around

nice guy.

Referring to the 1964 article on the high jump: "As for the 7 foot thing absolutely he made it as a matter of fact he jumped 7'3" in a non sanctioned meet and

many times in his back yard where his dad had erected a high jump pit for him to practice on.

But the 7' was in an official Section 4 meet in Utica or Schenectady not sure which? He held the record for youngest ( 16 ) ever to jump 7' and he used the

FASBERRY FLOP to do it."

I often chat on the classmate .com site with Sandy Campbell Bob's older brother. Maybe if we post something there we might fill in some blanks that is how

I found Judy Mcmullin through Tom Ratliff class of '64.

Sharon Garvey and I were really close in Jr High...but then I started to go to high school part time and work part time and dating Bob with every minute

that was left.

Fridays after school he would ride the bus home with me stay at my house until my mom or dad would take him home to Appalachin Glann Rd. I think it

was.

In the summers, Bob was involved in track and baseball ( Connie Mack League ) So my mom and dad were the car pool/ transportation for these summer

events.

I remember Cany Vanderlip was in Vestal Voices with me and Candy Roos and Bob Cambell, Ardyce Tanner, and Avarill Clarke

I don't think you would suprise anyone by telling them I had a crush on BOB. We were an item from 7th grade to 1964 when Andy Knapp deciced she

wanted the JOCK....and got him, she did.

The last time I saw Bob was on TV, when Penn State was in the Orange Bowl (1968?). As I remember it, he ran 80 or 90 yards for a

touchdown to win the game at the very end, but it was called back on a penalty.

So on the next play he did it again.  Storybook stuff, but I actually wasn't that surprised. In Vestal, we'd seen him do it before.

I sometimes wonder if Bob's celebrity everbothered him. Everybody thinks it would be great to be a star (and he was a star), but that eant

people didn't treat him like they did other people.

I was no exception. Bob offered me a ride home one time, and we chatted about this and that, but I was so surprised that he had offered

me a ride that I probably was babbling the whole time.

Some of my best times were when we had a fake ID and bought some Booz and went out cruzing with Bob Campbell.

THere was a newspaper article in our local paper at the end of 1999 about all the Sports Names over the years; Bob Cambell was mentioned and it even told

where he was living and working now, with pics ... I hope I saved it, I'll look around.

Bob Campbell was at the reunion. He was with his second wife (Ann Knapp and he had divorced earlier). Joanne thinks he is coaching at a boys school in

Maryland.
